Metal shed panels become large, sharp pieces once fasteners come out. Preparation should create a controlled work zone and a clear carry route without asking the owner to dismantle the shed.

Empty the danger items first

Remove fuel, propane cylinders, pesticides, chemicals and unknown liquids through an appropriate local program. Keep ordinary tools and contents separated into clear keep and remove groups.

Photograph the connections

Take close photos of the bottom rails, corner posts, roof seams and any visible anchors. Include rusted areas and storm damage. A shed that leans or has loose roof sheets needs advance review.

Measure panels and turns

Record the shed length, width and height, then measure the narrowest gate and any turn beside the house. The exit route must fit rigid panels or allow space for smaller controlled sections.

Protect the route

Move planters, hoses and fragile objects. Keep children and pets out of the yard while panels and fasteners are being handled.
